Yes, you read that right. Honey on Pepperoni Pizza. Allow me to explain:
We’ve been seeing this pop up on restaurant menus (looking at you, Bettina) and in various recipes across the internet. Whenever we ordered this fine flavor pairing, the simple combination of sweet, salty, spicy, and fatty always delivers a very satisfying pizza experience. It hits on all of the flavor notes you would ever want, making the (already perfect) pepperoni pizza that much more crave-able.
Luckily for us (and anyone reading this post), this restaurant-quality pizza is super simple to replicate at home. We set out to do just that during our pizza-making adventure last night.
We gathered the usual suspects for our pizza – our sourdough crust, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni. We assembled and baked the pizza in a hot cast iron pan until the crust had risen and browned, the cheese became bubbly and melty, and the pepperoni emerged greasy and crispy. After moving the pizza to our cutting board for serving, we drizzled a generous amount of honey over the entire pie, then sliced and served. We felt like we were in a restaurant all from the comfort of our home, which is really all we can ask for here in pandemic times.
